NEWTON - I’m writing to wholeheartedly support re-electing State Representative Kay Khan this November.

Kay is a committed Democrat with a strong record of accomplishment serving in the Legislature. As House Chair of the Committee on Children, Families, and Persons with Disabilities, she holds a leadership position and has been instrumental in passing legislation to benefit our children, our seniors, and those in need of health care and affordable housing. Kay has also worked on behalf of economic revitalization, public transit, and the environment, as her recent success in the restoration of the Lower Falls Bridge attests.

As Kay says, her priorities are driven by the needs and values of the people of Newton.

Her Republican opponent cannot claim that motivation. While some espouse changing officeholders for change’s sake, a change in this direction would be a serious mistake for Newton. Kay’s opponent has served on the Board of Aldermen, but you won’t find much, if any, positive contribution. If she participates, it’s usually to oppose what most aldermen who represent Newton’s values are supporting. Look at her recent sole vote against a resolution passed by the Board 23-1 asking Congress to limit corporate campaign contributions that so negatively impact America’s elections. Newton, along with almost 200 other Massachusetts communities, will vote this November on whether our state representatives should make the same request of Congress. Surely the majority of Newton’s voters will agree that corporate influence in our electoral process should be limited, but if Kay’s opponent were in office, our votes would be meaningless.

State Rep. Kay Khan is the candidate in this election who has represented your interests in the past and will continue to do so in the future. Please join me in voting to re-elect Kay Khan in November.
