Rep. Khan at the Primary Source Gala with fellow honorees (L-R) Charles M. Sennott, Beth Murphy, Karen Keating Ansara, Executive Director of Primary Source Julia de la Torre, Mitali Perkins, Rep. Kay Khan and Secretary Paul Reville
On Friday, October 26th, Representative Khan will be acknowledged as a member of the honorary committee at Primary Source’s largest annual fundraiser, Gala for Global Education. She will be recognized as a leader in our community who shares Primary Source’s passion for global understanding and has done significant work to promote and support global education initiatives across the Commonwealth.
In 2006, she successfully sponsored legislation to empower the Department of Education to create a framework through curriculum development that provides incentives for school administrators and teachers to infuse global perspectives into their classrooms. Additionally, this bill created a fund available for school systems to expand foreign language and exchange programs. She is a member of Global Education Massachusetts (GEM), a non-profit and non-partisan effort that promotes the integration of international studies into the K-12 curriculum in Massachusetts schools.
Kay co-founded the Newton Cultural Alliance (NCA), which promotes the city’s many arts and cultural organizations, with the goal of bringing culture and community together. She also serves as an advisor to the Newton Tanzania Collaborative, a non-profit organization building participatory development initiatives and relationships between schools and communities in the United States and Tanzania.
