Testimony in Support of H. 3254, An Act Relative to the Maintenance of the Mass. Turnpike Authority’

Type:  Testimony

Chairman Baddour, Chairman Wagner and members of the Committee, I would like to offer testimony in support of bill H. 3254, An Act Relative to the Maintenance of the Mass. Turnpike Authority’s Toll Discount Program [now under the Department of Transportation (DOT)].This bill would establish a fund to support the Toll Discount Program.
On June 28, 2002, the board of directors for the Mass. Turnpike Authority established the Toll Discount Program, and it is now continued under the DOT. H. 3254 would create the Metropolitan Highway System Toll Mitigation Fund in order to support this program. A portion of any sums owed to the Commonwealth and collected pursuant to chapter 4, section 83, of the Acts of 2003 would be deposited into the fund. The fund would continue to support the program until tolls are no longer necessary.

Thank you for your consideration of this important matter. I strongly encourage the Committee to adopt a favorable report for H. 3254 as expeditiously as possible.
